Directive makes cross-border healthcare easier for EU citizens
Directive facilitates access to safe and high-quality cross-border healthcare and promotes co-operation on healthcare between EU member states.
The Commission has adopted a proposal for a Directive aimed at facilitating patients seeking medical treatment in any country of the European Union. Once it comes into effect in 2013, the Directive will enable EU citizens to claim back medical expences for treatment received in other EU countries.
This is great news for EU citizens travelling frequently to other EU countries, such as foreign nationals who own property in Greece.
